Sedation Takes the Edge Off

Sedation Dentistry Melbourne, FLSince it is Halloween, it’s OK to be scared of some things. Peeps expanding from Easter to Halloween is one thing to certainly fear. Anyone who says they haven’t read a book in a decade is someone to be afraid of.

But going to your appointment with Dr. Brown, Dr. Vaughn, and our friendly crew here at Implant Dentistry of Florida? That’s nothing to fear. This is especially true because we offer sedation dentistry to help our patients who have anxiety about visiting the dentist overcome their fears.

Our Sedation Options

  • Local anesthesia

Local anesthesia is placed only in the direct location of the work being done, hence the name “local.” Originally, the local anesthesia of choice was Novocain. Now, however, that has changed to Lidocaine because less people have a reaction to it.

  • Nitrous oxide

Laughing gas has been around dentistry since the 1800s. It has a simple calming effect on nervous patients. There is also a slight euphoria, as well. One great thing about using nitrous oxide to keep you calm is that its effects pass very quickly once the gas is removed. This allows the patient to fully recover in just a few minutes, so they can drive themselves home.

  • Minimal sedation

Oral sedatives can be great for patients with even more anxiety. Halcion, Valium, and Loraxepam and popular oral sedatives that produce a very relaxed state without anxiety. The patient is not asleep, however, and is able to respond to instructions and questions. These sedatives do have an amnesia effect, so patients don’t remember much about their visit.

  • Moderate conscious sedation

Moderate sedation can be delivered intravenously for patients with higher levels of anxiety. Patients are awake, but extremely relaxed. They won’t remember anything about their appointment.

See? Nothing to fear. You can fear the sheer amount of candy your kid brings home this Halloween, although there are never enough Milky Ways or Three Musketeers!

If you have anxiety about visiting the team at Implant Dentistry of Florida, that needs to go away because we offer various types of sedation. This scary time of year, call us to book your appointment, (321) 372-7700.
